Someday, people will want to compose epic ballads about
my life. When they finally get down to it, I figured a blog like this one would make good reference material.

Perhaps, in the extravagance
of youth, we give away our
devotions easily and all but
arbitrarily, on the mistaken
assumption that we’ll always
have more to give."

"Dear Mannschaft,

As we are writing this, you are making your way back home as heroes. We won’t lie or try to hide it - we are sad and disappointed that you will not be bringing the world cup back to Berlin, as it should have been. But we are in no way any less proud of you! Four years ago you were talked about not as champions of the world but champions of the heart and it is fair to say that you still hold that crown.

There is only one way for us to describe you in this tournament: inspiring. You allowed us to hope, you excited us, and you made us long to be a part of something great. But most of all - you rekindled our belief in team spirit You had people from across the world, who thought they would never watch football, on the edge of their seats in black-red-gold and you made others fall in love with football all over again. You showed the world that football can be played both respectfully and brilliantly.

Football has its many cliches, but sometimes they are true- sports is at its best when it brings people together and you managed to do just that with amazing team work and honorable demeanor both during and after each game. We adore your passion, and for us you are the true champions. You are a strong team in the truest sense of the word.

Sitting at the four corners of the earth, we watched the celebration from Germany and wished we could be part of it. Your amazing ambition, devotion and talent go well beyond the borders of your homeland and have reached people in [names of countries we come from], and much more.

Now that the 2010 World Cup is over and the long wait for 2014 is soon to start, we just wanted to have the chance to say thank you. Thank you for an amazing month, the incredible victories, the unforgettable laughs, and the tears of joy. We whole-heartedly believe this is only the start of something truly remarkable, and we will be there to cheer you on every step of the way.

Wir lieben euch!
Your international fans."

You know what? Fuck what happened last night. Fuck the World Cup title.
I don't know why things turned out the way they did, but I know you guys deserve better.

Germany 4 England 1

GOOD JOB for handing the English their arses beating England and
ALL THE BEST GERMANY for your match with Argentina tomorrow!
(GO KICK SOME ARGENTINIAN BUTT!)

From the Los Angeles Times

"The octopus oracle made a decision. Paul, an English-born octopus in the Sea Life Aquarium in Oberhausen, picked Germany and with it predicts that the German team will win over Argentina in a quarterfinal match.

So far Paul has correctly predicted all four games of Germany in the World Cup. Paul decides over a winner by picking a sea goodie in one of two glasses — one with a German flag and the other one with a flag of the opponent.

But his decision on the match on Saturday didn't seem easy.

He hesitated with taking the goodie, which could be interpreted as a tough game for Germany."
